Days are shorter, clothes are thicker and the weather decidedly drearier, but that needn't mean the end to Friday nights spent at outdoor pop ups. Following a hugely successful few months of Summer Tales, the Shoreditch venue recently relaunched its winter substitute Night Tales with a new 'Tokyo Nights' theme, complete with paper lanterns, Japanese houses and neon lights under the protection of a rain-proof canopy.

As well as the option to sample the eight-course Japanese meal in a private dining area (pre-booked only), the old favourite food vendors remain and offer a varied enough selection of grub for even the most sushi-phobic among us. Summer Tales veteran Walter and Monty served up totally mouth-watering charcoal-grilled chicken and and angus steak, with the option to have it on a plate full of salad or a more transportable wrap. The steak wrap was a bit of a sting on the wallet at £9, but to be expected from a pop up and the taste made it absolutely worth it.

Unlike many London pop-ups, what sets Tales aside is its equal focus on great drinks as well as great food. Each of the bars features cocktails infusing the Japanese theme using rice wine, alongside sake martinis and white Russians. There are also more familiar ones to choose from if you don't want to risk £7 on something out of your drinking comfort zone...

Top all that off with a selection of top notch DJs that'll get you off your preciously guarded seats for a boogie and you're in for a top night. My only complaint was the 11:30pm closing time - I was just getting started!! But well worth the empty wallet.
